When choosing a medical transcription company, it is important to not only think of your present needs, but to think of your future needs. Will you at some point be going to an E.M.R.? (Electronic Medical Records) Since this is a likely possibility, it would be wise to use a company that is at the very least, E.M.R. capable. The last thing you need to deal with when setting up your new E.M.R. system is breaking in and traing a new transcription company.

The best way to think of dictation services is as your silent business partner, their job is to make sure that the notes you make during the day are typed up and ready to go by the next day.

Medical transcription has a long, but modern history. Starting in the 1960's this was the method most have used to keep medical records and charts up to date. The first process was called Manufacturing Resource Planning and it involved the use of typewriters, moving up to electric typewriters as time went on. Along with medical transcriptions services some doctors have tried speech recognition, but have found this to be ineffective if not used along with human editors who are capable of discovering mistakes. Using automated services or online service the process has moved in less than fifty years from handwritten notes or direct dictation to a variety of different electronic processes.
